How to Top Dress Your Lawn with Compost by Hand

Mow the Lawn – Cut the grass shorter than usual to help the compost reach the soil.

Dethatch or Aerate  – Highly recommended, use a rake or aerator to improve soil contact and incorporation of compost.

Choose A1 Organics Compost – Use fine, screened compost 1/4 inch. COMAND Compost is design specifically for Top Dressing.

Spread Compost Evenly – Use a shovel or bucket to scatter small piles across the lawn.

Rake or Brush It In – Use a rake, broom, or the back of a rake to spread the compost into the grass. Aim for about ¼ to ½ inch deep.

Water the Lawn – Immediately after application, lightly water to help the compost settle into the soil.

Repeat once or twice a year for a healthier lawn in the Spring and/or Fall!
